Nebraska
From Iowa, we made our way to Nebraska for a weeklong visit with my brother Jonathan and his family. In terms of all my siblings, he is the nearest in age to me, so our kids are (mostly) the same ages. It was such a great week getting the kids together, and my sweet sister-in-law planned daily activities for us while the guys worked. She even fed us all week! Which honestly was great because the campground we were at wasn’t really one we wanted to spend time at - haha! It was actually a newer campground and fully paved sites, but it wasn’t managed? So there was someone in our spot when we arrived and we had no choice but to take another random spot for the week (which is highly unusual and very frowned upon in any other circumstance). Super weird!
Anyway, Angela, the kids, and I went to a movie, played at a bunch of parks, hit the library, played at splash pads, and just generally did life together all week. We all had a great time even amidst the heat. One morning, they brought us donuts for breakfast at the camper, and Ike’s very loose tooth came out in his donut and he unknowingly swallowed it. So everyone got to share in the excitement!
We also had the joy of spending the 4th of July in a small Midwest town and it was wonderful. My parents came down along with my missionary brother and his family who were visiting from Romania. We started the day with a walk to the parade - the first time my kids have experienced one! The rest of the day was a series of kids running around with sparklers, taking turns lighting bottle rockets, yummy meals together, lots of catching up, and an evening fireworks show in the driveway. It was so sweet to see our faraway family and spend a holiday together! Another happy week :)
